UMass Linguists to Alberta in February

A large contingent of UMass Linguists, joined by colleagues from Computer Science, has had abstracts accepted to the Workshop on Computational Modelling of Sound Pattern Acquisition, to be held at the University of Alberta February 13-14:

Karen Jesney, Joe Pater and Robert Staubs. Restrictive Learning with Distributions over Underlying Representations.

Jason Naradowsky (UMass CS), Joe Pater, David Smith (UMass CS) and Robert Staubs. Learning Hidden Metrical Structure with a Log-Linear Model of Grammar.

Kathryn Pruitt, Brian Smith, Andy Martin (LCSP, Paris) and Joe Pater. A Darwinian Account of Underrepresentation of Doubly Marked Forms.

The South College group will also include invited speakers Michael Becker, Andries Coetzee, and Elliott Moreton, as well as organizer Anne-Michelle Tessier, all alums. The average minimum temperature in Edmonton in February is -13 Celsius.
