Description
Treatment in depth of a selected area of linguistic theory, with emphasis on developing students' ability to conduct research in syntactic theory.
Fall 2009: Movement and its Interfaces This seminar undertakes the project of giving a new syntactic model of movement relations that attempts to explain how reconstruction effects arise, how movement changes the linearization process and how movement is constrained. The central proposal is that movement produces phrase markers in which items gain more than one mother, an idea that goes back to an obscure paper by Stanley Peters and Robert Ritchie.
