Description
This course will explore in an intuitive way how language connects to the rest of the mind. The course will have two emphases: how children acquire language and how the language faculty engages other aspects of mind. An important topic will be our reaction and treatment of dialects. Another important issue will be the nature of intellectual responsibility, and the impact of ideas on the unconscious. No prerequisites. Requirements: Participation in discussions, homework, in-class presentations and a final paper. There will be no examination.
